The Ocala Domestic Violence Center is committed to helping the battered woman and her family. Their professional and volunteer staff conducts a complete counseling, assistance, safe housing, and referral program. They operate an 81+ bed shelter where the abused woman and her children can go to be safe from further harm and find the emotional and practical support to begin to rebuild a safer, happier life. Women’s Pregnancy Center is a safe place to discuss unplanned pregnancies without judgment, while addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions of the pregnancy. They offer a range of services from pregnancy testing and counseling to parenting classes and life coaching. Their goal is to offer help and hope while sharing the love of Christ in both word and deed.
During a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the agency will unveil two new group homes - one for boys and one for girls - that were built to house teens ages 13 to 18 who are in need of long-term assistance. The Arnette House stands to help at-risk youths with no place to go to get on their feet and get the education and skills needed to succeed in life. And it offers some foster children a stable atmosphere and a fighting chance. Throughout the year Grace invites those inside the church and in the community to join with IJM in the fight to end modern day slavery; teach and learn about modern day slavery; and share God's heart for justice. Project Hope of Marion County is a non-profit organization, established in 2007 by a faith-based community group, to provide solutions for homelessness among women and their dependent children.
Arnette House to unveil two new group homes for at-risk youth
Perhaps the best feature the homes offers is a sense of normalcy - something hard to come by for many of the boys and girls who often have been shuffled from place to place. On the upper floor three rooms provide enough space for individual use. This home is located in a residential area, located in the historic part of the city Schwalbacher. Grace Church assists with fundraising activities, such as the Baby Bottle Campaign and Walk for Life.
Although the Arnette House is eligible for and receives government grants, it relies heavily on donations and fundraising to run all of its programs. The residents also are required to get a job or become involved in community service projects. Each youth in the house must be enrolled in an educational program, either attending school or seeking to pass the GED exam. Currently, there are five girls and four boys living in the homes.
Program areas at Arnette House
Arnette House continues to be recognized by the Florida Network of Youth and Family Services as a leader in serving Runaway, Ungovernable, Truant and Homeless youth. Arnette House is the shelter providing services to Marion, Lake, Sumter, Citrus and Hernando Counties. Grace has provided supplies for the group homes and invited the girls and their babies to activities at Grace. One 17 year-old resident, who moved into the boys house three months ago due to family issues, says the organization has helped him get his life on track. "I tell them all the time. This is like a family," said girls' group coordinator Manuela Brett. "We encourage anything that is improving their lives, like sports activities, religious activities, outings where they can bond with each other so they get a feeling of belonging somewhere.

The Arnette House Residential Group Homes provide services to youth ages who are in need of long-term foster care placement. There are two homes, one each for six boys and six girls, that focus on the physical and emotional well-being of the individual clients and teach methods for sustaining basic life skills aimed at fostering self-sufficiency. The youth are provided a healthy and supportive home-like environment, which meets basic needs, and will assist in their goal to become self-sufficient once they age out of foster care when they turn 18. Hands of Mercy Everywhere (H.O.M.E.) provides a Christian-based residential group home for teenage girls, and pregnant or parenting teens in the foster care system.
Who funds Arnette House
Grace was one of a group of churches that founded Interfaith Emergency Services . For more than 3 decades, Grace has continued to support IES as they provide a full range of services and assistance to individuals and families in need. They provide the basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and much more to enhance the quality of life for families and individuals. We offer emergency shelter services, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to youth and families in the Ocala area. We provide an emergency youth shelter, family counseling services, & foster care group homes to Marion, Lake, Sumter, Citrus & Hernando Counties.
We look forward to being able to be with the girls again soon. Each Christmas Grace congregation provides the resources for the six boys and six girls in the group homes to participate in activities they would not otherwise be able to enjoy. Arnette House provides services to the community through caring and dedicated staff who focus on the strengths of the family while providing skills and knowledge to help improve life at home. They provide comprehensive services including counseling, financial skill development and trauma recovery services. They also work with a vast network of community organizations that provide services to help meet each family’s individual needs for health, dental, educational needs.
The Ocala Farm Ministry serves the farmers and their children in Ocala. They offer a variety of programs, from after-school tutoring to Boys Scouts. Grace Church has partnered with this ministry and helped build a computer lab for its tutoring program with the funding of The Episcopal Church and The David & Lisa Midgett Foundation.
Manuela Brett, the girls group coordinator for the Arnette House, stands in the dining room of the new girls unit with the "inspirational wall" behind her. The more trust the youths gain by taking on responsibilities, the higher the level of privileges they earn. Each house, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, has a capacity for six residents.
